Gee whiz, look at the lights and darks in this image, Ansel! Superb! I love the framing and composition; look at the juxtaposition of the tree to your mom to the drift of daffs!

Infrared film! It picks up the infrared light emitted from things in addition to the regular light we can see. Plants give off a lot of it, so they are light. The dead tree in the background doesn't so it is dark.

Infrared film is really nice, but also expencive- 15-20$ per roll. There are ways to modify a digital camera to take infrared photos as well.
